The Hunger

I started through the forest afetr the small group of hikers quietly. Being careful not to step on any of the dead leaves littering no one else would understand, save one of my people.

I guess I wasn't being as noiseless as I thought, for one of the teenagers near the back turned around and looked toward the clump of trees to my right curiously.

"Dee Dee, hurry up! We need to make the campsite by nightfall!" said the leader of the teens as he spotted the straggling, red-headed girl.

"Coming, Mr. Matthews." Staring once more, seemingly right into my eyes, she turned away and caught up with a tall blond waiting for her.

My heart started to beat again and my tail flicked into the air with annoyance over being so reckless. They couldn't really do anything to me except leave the forest and go back whence they came. But I couldn't let that happen... at least not until I've had a little fun!

I stood and stretched out, the muscles of my flanks rippling below black, silky fur. I resumed my easy pace about ten feet behind them, keeping to the bushes but always having them in sight. I passed beneath a tree and the birds housed inside of it alighted into the sky, screeching in fright; the sensed my presence. Thankfully, I was too far away from the humans for them to hear the disturbance. I growled low in my throat. I know I must be patient, but it's hard. I have not eaten for days.

Sunset had come and gone quickly and the darker it became, the faster my heart beat with anticipation of the hunt. The campsite had been prepared and the humans gathered around the fire, laughing and telling horror stories. Little did they know, that real horror awaited them very close to their warm, safe haven. But one of them had to come out of it sometime. And when one of them did, I would be there to get them. I yawned, shifting restlessly and showing a mouthful of shrp, white, lethal teeth.

"Well, nature calls, guys," announced a teenage guy with curly, sandy blond hair falling onto his shoulders. Hmm, very handsome. But looks don't count for me, I take what I can get.

"Stay close to the camp, Alex," called a pretty brunette, smiling at him warmly. I frowned. Protective, that girl is. I don't like those types of people. She will be next - I will drain the life from her, but first I will shake that calm facade. I smiled to myself at the thought.

But first I must focus on the one coming towards me. I stood up on my four paws and then, with a whisper, I stood in my true form. It was better to seduce himm first. This was my favorite way to kill prey. I walked further out into the forest as he unnknowingly walked to meet me. My breath had quickened; my throat was dry and parched, my teeth aching in my jaw.

When he had come close enough to me and far enough out of sight of the camp, I stepped foreward into a patch of moonlight directly into his line of vision. He gasped. I smiled at him. I knew that my true form was indeed physically appealing to human eyes. My long, raven-black tresses cascaded down my back.

And though my complexion was deathly white, it was smooth and flawless, My large, dark eyes glittered like jewels. I wore a long, flowing white dress which floated around my body with the gentle night breeze. My mind reached out to him, as I beckoned with my hands.

"Come to me, my love," I said with a soft, musical voice. He came obediently. I wrapped him in my arms amd pulled him to me. "I will give you my gift, my silver kiss," I said softly, but instead of touching my lips to his, I tilted his head back, revealing a bronzed throat. I could see the veins pulsating through his skin, and I licked my lips.

Bowing my head to him, I slowly sank my fangs into his neck. I could hear him whisper something, but it fell on deaf ears. He did not resist me, so whatever came from his lips was of no importance. I reveled in feelings of satisfaction, my hunger taking control of my senses.

After I had my fill, I threw him carelessly to the ground and walked back toward the camp. My hunger was only slightly satiated, I needed more. I pearched in a tree and folded my black-featherd wings against my back and watched the mortals with unblinking eyes, waiting for my next victim. There were always others.
