"The old taboos have fallen like sandcastles before the tide of rationalism."
"In a cultural sense, the 20th century has been the great age of debunking, of secularisation and de-mythologisation. It is not just that we believe less in gods and superstition: it is impossible now for racial mythologies about Jews, Arayans, and blacks to get a respectable hearing; and in large areas of social and private life the old taboos have fallen like sandcastles before the tide of rationalism. In a sense, we are all agnostics now.
There is one great exception to this: the vampire myth. To be sure, the myth is hardly a modern creation. But the audience and resonance this myth has achieved in the 20th century is quite unparalleled."

Fangs! A History of Vampires in the Movies
(1997)

Summary: This is a fairly standard but quite entertaining collection of clip cataloging but a small fraction of all the Dracula/Vampire movies that have been spawned by Hollywood in the last hundred years. There is no attempt to get into deep meaning or to really differentiate between the variant styles employed in such films, but you will recognize all of your favorites and probably come up with a few new flicks to track down at your local video store. Unexplained: The Vampire Myth
(1999)

Synopsis: Vampire Myth doesn't provide any final answer to the question, "Are these creatures for real?" It does, however, introduce viewers to a woman who sleeps in a coffin and a man who lives with his "blood donor" and frequents a vampire fetish club in, of all places, Beverly Hills. The hour-long video also offers literary and historical perspectives for our fascination with these denizens of the dark, examining Bram Stoker's Dracula and revealing the grisly details of the 15th-century reign of Vlad the Impaler, who liked to dine among his screaming victims. Although the narration warns of disturbing imagery, the clips of modern-day vampires sucking blood from the shoulders or arms of their donors (necks, apparently, are now passé) are actually fairly tame. --Larisa Lomacky Moore
